Where was God Rama's wife Mata Sita born?
King Janak Ploughing land |
I have constantly seen people in a dilemma about the exact birthplace of Goddess Sita. Is it Sitamarhi or Janakpur; heart of mithila and location of Sita's Palace "Janaki Mandir".??
In ancient time, Sitamarhi, Bihar was a part of King Janak's principality. As the story goes, Sita was found by King Janak while ploughing field in Punaura, a place nearby Sitamarhi to avert a drought. The palace of King Janak was in Nepal now called Janakpur which is around 60 km from Sitamarhi. In fact, from east to west, the boundary of Sitamarhi district touches that of Nepal.
Sita Kund is said to be the exact place where King Janak plowed the land and found Sita ji. The field is now water logged.
Punaura Dham is one of the holiest Hindu temples dedicated to Goddess Sita, located in Sitamarhi, Bihar, India. Million of pilgrims visit the temple every year and most visited religious shrine in North India.
